Sara Reed

2025 Yale & Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

Sara Reed is a social studies teacher at Lamoille Union High School, a small school in the mountains of northern Vermont. She has students ages 14-18 and teaches a wide variety of courses, including AP World History, AP Human Geography, Ancient World History, U.S. History, and the History & Science of Mummification. Last year she won a Fulbright Award to do research for a new course on historical & modern slavery around the world. She is looking for ways to make New England slavery come alive for her students through the lived experiences of real people, and at the same time give them a deeper understanding of what slavery looked like in this part of America.
