Summer Language Intensive

Modern Greek Language Summer Intensive

Dates: May 8-24, 2024

Description:

The Hellenic Studies Program at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, with support from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announces the opportunity for up to ten undergraduate students to participate in two weeks of intensive language courses at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. The following will be provided with funding from the Hellenic Studies Program:

  • 40 teaching hours of Modern Greek Language classes
  • 4 two-hour English lectures by Aristotle University, Thessaloniki professors on various topics
  • 4 cultural visits within Thessaloniki
  • 1 excursion outside of Thessaloniki
  • Textbooks
  • Up to $1500 stipend for round trip economy class airfare to and from Thessaloniki and ground transportation to and from airport (precise amount determined by the MacMillan Center, based on student-submitted budget proposal).
  • Lodging for the duration of the program, including breakfast and one additional meal per day

Students will be responsible for the following costs:

  • Additional meals and incidentals
  • Any transportation costs within Thessaloniki
  • Any flight/ground transportation costs higher than the $1500 cap

Students will fly to Thessaloniki on Thursday, May 8, 2024. Dates have been chosen to coincide with the closing of residence halls.

Priority will be given to those planning to continue the study of Modern Greek language.

Note that this program is not a credit-granting one.

Requirements:

  • Beginner or Intermediate knowledge of Modern Greek (at the time of program’s start)
  • Good academic standing
