Juan Borrego
As an aspiring physician and a passionate advocate for public health, Juan Borrego is deeply committed to bridging the gap between public policy and medicine to address health inequities and enhance community welfare, particularly in Latin American contexts. Juan is currently pursuing a BA in Global Affairs at Yale University, and he is working as an Epidemiology Research Assistant at the Yale School of Public Health to explore how infrastructure affects the transmission of dengue in Rio de Janeiro under the guidance of Dr. Albert Ko.
Beyond Juan's academic pursuits, his clinical insights were shaped by experiences at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, where he analyzed and observed firsthand the nuances of health equity and patient care. As a state-licensed EMT and a Patient Navigator at the HAVEN Free Clinic, he has honed his skills in emergency response and patient care management. Juan also assists in operating a mobile medical clinic to support underserved neighborhoods in New Haven.
Juan's involvement extends beyond medical experience into public policy. He co-founded and presides over Attention to Prevention, an organization empowering youth to take active roles in public health advocacy. He also served as a Senator on the Yale College Council, where he actively engaged with administrators to spearhead initiatives such as the Healthcare Transportation Reimbursement Program, which improved access to healthcare facilities by removing the financial barriers of ride-share costs.
