Students who wish to pursue full-time dissertation research at Yale and are currently enrolled in a graduate program at another university may be admitted as a visiting assistant in research (VAR).

Applicants must identify a faculty member affiliated with one of the councils or programs at the MacMillan Center who agrees to supervise/mentor them while at Yale. View the comprehensive list of faculty affiliates.

VAR’s with the MacMillan Center must be approved by the MacMillan Center and admitted by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) via a web-based application process.  Please carefully review the GSAS website for more information on the VAR application process and all requirements.

Please note that you should start application only after receiving approval from the MacMillan Center to do so. For any questions about the VAR application process, reach out to julia.muravnik@yale.edu.
