Mark Roland
Prior to Yale, Mark spent nearly twelve years as Program Director with Results for Development (R4D), an international development NGO, where he co-led R4D’s Global Education practice, supporting stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries to strengthen education policies, practices, and systems. In this role, Mark worked in over twenty countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa, leading work focused on early childhood development, innovation in education, and evaluation and learning. He also spearheaded the cultivation of new partnerships, while leading efforts to translate research into uptake. Mark co-authored R4D’s education practice strategy, and under his leadership, the practice considerably expanded the breadth and impact of its work.
Mark has authored a number of education, health, and nutrition reports, and has co-chaired or led several working groups, panels, and learning networks on diverse topics, from evidence translation to development financing. Before joining R4D, Mark worked with several domestic and international organizations, including UNICEF and the Massachusetts Medicaid program. He holds a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University and a BA in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame. He is conversant in Spanish.
