Program in Agrarian Studies: Postdoctoral Associates for 2023-2024

The Program in Agrarian Studies at Yale fosters the interdisciplinary study of agrarian societies, historically and across the world. We aim to be the crossroads for the best work in the humanities, the social sciences, environmental studies, and related professional fields that breathes new life into the study of farmers, agriculture, and rural society and captures the texture of lived experience as well contributing to theoretical and conceptual advances.

The Agrarian Studies Program will appoint two postdoctoral associates for the 2023-2024 academic year, chosen for the promise of their research. They are required to be in residence for the year, present a paper, and attend the weekly colloquium. Academic applicants should have received their Ph.D. in 2015 or later. We also receive applications from knowledgeable “activists” and “public intellectuals” whose work on rural life transcends the academy.

Graduate students who are working on their Ph.D.’s may apply, but fellowship recipients must have completed their Ph.D. dissertations and present proof that they have received their Ph.D. degrees. Postdoctoral Associates are expected to be in residence in New Haven so that they can take an active part in the intellectual exchange with other members of the Program.

The due date for a first-stage application for 2023–2024 Postdoctoral Associates is Monday, January 2, 2023 at midnight EST. This is a firm deadline.

First-stage applications require a two-page proposal and a two-page CV. If more is submitted the selection committee will only read the first two pages of each of these two documents.
