Nichole Gleisner

Nichole Gleisner, a lecturer in the French Department, teaches translation workshops dedicated to exploring diverse forms and genres written in French. In her research, she explores the trenches of World War One as complex sites of literary production and material culture, and how societal norms and political pressures influence the ways soldiers, artists, and other actors witness the experience of war. She also extends these same questions to explorations of francophone writing from Lebanon.  

She has published a translation of Benoîte Groult's memoir, My Escape (Other Press, 2012) and her manuscript of Sabyl Ghoussoub's Beyrouth entre parenthèses will be published in the "World Writing in French: New Archipelagoes" series with Liverpool University Press (forthcoming). She's currently working on a manuscript translating the letters of Louise de Coligny-Châtillon, the muse and lover of poet Guillaume Apollinaire. 
 

She serves as managing editor of Yale French Studies. Before coming to Yale, she has been an editor at New Haven Review, The Atlantic Monthly, Arion, and Partisan Review.
