Visiting scholars offer diverse perspectives and experiences to help enrich the academic environment for our students, faculty members, and other scholars. Their contributions come in many forms including through teaching, mentorship, and participation in colloquia and seminars.

While at the center, visiting scholars have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in weekly colloquia and seminar series

  • Give lectures and invited talks

  • Teach courses across the University

  • Conduct their own research for publications and projects

  • Collaborate with other scholars through a series of academic exchange

Appointment

Visiting scholars are appointed at the MacMillan Center through one of two channels: faculty nominations or sponsored searches.

  • Faculty nominations come directly from a MacMillan faculty member who is interested in collaborating and/or mentoring particular scholars.

  • Sponsored searches allow applicants to express interest in positions.

Scholars will be required to demonstrate a source of external salary support, commonly via paid sabbatical from their home university or funding from an organization seeking to support research.

Sponsored searches allow applicants to express interest in positions. These can be found on MacMillan's Student Fellowships and Grants page.
