Consulate General of Lithuania in New York Visits Yale

Baltic Studies Program

On January 27, 2025, the Yale Baltic Studies Program hosted guests from the office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in New York: Consul General Dovydas Špokauskas, Cultural Attaché Gražina Michnevičiūtė, and First Secretary Kamilė Nemeikšytė. The Consulate General’s office has been a welcome collaborative partner with Yale in envisaging programs in Baltic Studies, notably the symposium recognizing the 700th anniversary of the founding of Vilnius, held in October 2022. In addition to making a brief tour of campus, the group viewed a collection of materials held in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library on the Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Čiurlionis (1875-1911), including publications by the former Curator of Slavic and East European Collections at Yale University Library, Aleksis Rannit. This collection was organized by Anna Arays, Head of Area Studies and Librarian for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies at Yale University Library.
