E&RS MA Students' Trip to New York City

On March 8th, the MA students from the European and Russian Studies Program embarked on an enriching trip to New York City, focused on professional development and exploring a range of career prospects. The day began with a visit to the offices of United Board, a nonprofit organization that plays a vital role in fostering higher education in Asia. During their visit, students had the opportunity to engage with representatives from the organization, gaining insight into how international education initiatives can help strengthen academic institutions and promote sustainable development across Asia.

In the afternoon, the students visited the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations. There, they met with senior Kazakh diplomats, who provided valuable perspectives on diplomatic work and the unique opportunities available within the UN system. The diplomats shared their experiences working on some of the world’s most pressing issues and explained how Kazakhstan, through its multivector foreign policy, seeks to drive positive change in regional security, economic development, and climate change. The students left the meeting with a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan’s approach to international diplomacy and the complexities of working in the multilateral environment of the UN.

This visit not only highlighted potential career paths in international organizations and diplomacy but also provided the students with first-hand knowledge of the practical application of their academic studies in a global context.
