Aida Anderson

PhD Student

Aida Anderson is a first-year Ph.D. student in Slavic and Eurasian Literatures and Cultures at Yale University. Her research explores post-Soviet Russophone literature in Kazakhstan, with a focus on questions of decolonization, cultural identity, and hybridity. She is particularly interested in how marginalized literary voices and networks challenge dominant narratives and create spaces for cross-cultural dialogue.

Before coming to Yale, Aida completed a B.A. in World Literatures and an M.A. in Eurasian Studies at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, where her thesis, MARKing Kazakhstani Literature: From Marginalization to Decolonization, examined the work of Olga Markova and the shaping of Kazakhstani Russophone literary traditions. She has presented her research at international conferences and her academic and translation work has appeared in literary journals and reviews that highlight Central Asian writers for wider audiences.
