Alexandra Dreher

Alexandra Dreher is a PhD student in Yale’s Music Department with a concentration in Music History. Her research explores structures of silence in German and Russian contexts during the 1930s-1950s, with particular attention to Nazism and Stalinism. This research connects with broader themes in her work, which examine the intersections of music and sound with the sacred, ethics, memory, aesthetics, and politics. 

She holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance and a B.A. in German from Pacific Lutheran University, an M.A. in Religion from Yale Divinity School, and a certificate from Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music. From 2017 to 2019, she taught English under the Fulbright Program and Pädagogische Austauschdienst in Cologne, Germany. She also pursues her interest in musical diplomacy through her continued work with the Diplomatic Choir of Berlin.
