Alan Lisko

PhD Student

Alan Lisko is a PhD student in the Department of Italian Studies, focused on modern and contemporary Italian history and culture. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Italian, English, and Global Studies from the University of Alabama (2018) and a master’s degree in Literary Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2020). From 2022-2025, Alan was a full-time instructor of Italian at the University of Alabama, teaching introductory and intermediate Italian language courses and serving as assistant director of the university’s summer study abroad language program in Florence, Italy. At Yale, his research addresses twentieth-century Italian history and culture and its preservation and transmission both in Italy and abroad. He is particularly interested in Italian anti-Fascism, alternative models of masculinity under Fascism, ghosts, memory studies, and translation.
