Julien Neel
Julien Néel received a double BA in English and French literatures and his MA in comparative literature from Sorbonne Université, as well as an MA in arts, languages, and literatures from L’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). A third-year doctoral student in French and an Environmental Humanities Fellow at the Whitney Humanities Center, he studies ecocriticism, energy humanities, infrastructure studies, affect theory, and new materialisms in 20th and 21st-century French and Francophone literature. His research deals with the affective and material responses to vulnerabilities caused by environmental disturbances surrounding infrastructures commonly thought as providing “green” or “clean” energy, like dams and nuclear facilities.
