Lily Lassiter
Lily is majoring in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in computational linguistics, and she is also pursuing a French certificate. Her research, coursework, and study abroad experiences all continue to shape her understanding about AI’s global impacts and Europe's role in advancing the frontiers of AI. She plans to complete her senior thesis on language acquisition in large language models (LLMs), and last summer, she conducted machine learning research at EPFL, a leading technology institute in Lausanne, Switzerland. One of the labs that she joined aims to expand healthcare access in under-resourced areas by creating open-source medical AI tools. Such work involves developing multilingual and multidialectal LLMs, fostering cross-cultural relations, mitigating bias in LLMs, and collaborating with diverse, international teams. In short, Lily not only studies LLMs from a computational, linguistic, and mathematical angle, but she is also passionate about using them to improve health technologies in Europe and beyond.
