Mikaele Ymker

Undergraduate Student

Born in The Netherlands and raised in New Zealand, Mikaele is a Junior in Berkeley College majoring in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Food and Agriculture. Given the strong agricultural heritage of both New Zealand and the Netherlands, Mikaele is passionate about investigating how the future of the global food system can be environmentally and economically viable, while upholding food security and nutrient availability in light of a growing global population. Mikaele believes that understanding the role of Europe’s agricultural production and food trade is critical to comparing effective global production and distribution systems. Mikaele spent her summer at Oxford University to compare the environmental efficacy of the New Zealand and UK agricultural systems, and is continuing this work at Yale.

Outside of the classroom, Mikaele is the captain of the Yale Equestrian Team and a member of the Yale Ballroom Dance Team. You can also find her working with the Yale Student Environmental Coalition, or reading a good book over a cup of tea.
