Undergraduate Student
Sabrina Soriano

Sabrina's research interests lie at the dynamic intersection of technology, labor, and international relations, especially as they pertain to Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Attending the UNIV Inspire 2024 research conference in Rome provided her with a unique opportunity to bring these interests into sharper focus. Her project, “Artificial Intelligence: Global Competition or Cooperation?” explored how AI reshapes human work, a topic that is increasingly relevant across borders. By honing in on Chile and Mexico, Sabrina examined how AI policies and labor dynamics in these countries reflect broader trends and challenges faced across Latin America, particularly in balancing innovation with equitable labor opportunities.

This experience deepened her understanding of how nations with strong cultural and historical ties, like those in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, could engage with AI—either through competition or collaboration. It fueled Sabrina's commitment to researching these issues with an eye toward cooperative frameworks that respect local contexts while fostering shared growth in a globalized economy.
