Fall 2019 Film Series - “Literary Adaptations on Screen”
From its earliest days, cinema has often turned to Russian literary sources for inspiration. Classical works by Chekhov, Dostoyevsky and others have been translated and transposed into innumerable languages and settings. This fall of 2019, the Russian Film Series is delighted to present a selection of these films by acclaimed directors from across Europe and the United States. Offering captivating cinematography and raising questions about the role of medium specificity, these works present innovative takes on some of literature’s most beloved stories. All films will be followed by a brief presentation and an audience Q&A.
