Presentation at the European Consortium for Political Research

Daniel Goldstein
Daniel Goldstein is pursuing a PhD with a focus on comparative political economy.  His primary research interests are state capacity and institutional reform, with a special interest in the impact of political executives on institutional change.

I participated in a three-day European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Joint Sessions conference hosted by the University of Edinburgh with the support of the European Studies Council at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies. I was a participant in a specialized mini-conference on democratic backsliding, particularly focused on Europe. The project I presented investigates how citizen norms foster support for democracy. This occurs as a result of citizens’ social pressures, which encourage them to vote against politicians who advocate undemocratic policies.

It was a fantastic conference at which I received useful feedback on the project and was able to network with European scholars who also study this pressing issue. I appreciate the ESC’s facilitation of my participation.
