CAS Lecture Series: In the Company of Holes: Demographics and Kin-Making in Rwanda

Aalyia Sadruddin is an Assistant Professor of Cultural and Medical Anthropology at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on matters related to aging, care, and local cultures of therapy (as they relate to health and wellbeing) in conflict and postconflict settings. Her current book, “After-After-Lives,” narrates the experiences of now elderly women and men in Rwanda, whose adulthoods were interrupted by numerous episodes of political and ethnic violence between the late 1950s and mid 1990s. To date, Sadruddin has published articles on topics from emergent art worlds to elder care in journals, including Cultural Anthropology, Medical Anthropology Quarterly, and Social Science & Medicine.
