2020 SDLAC Conference:Latin America at Home and Abroad: People, Capital, and Natural Resources
The Fifth Annual Conference on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on February 14, 2020 at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES).
This year’s theme is Latin America at Home and Abroad: People, Capital, and Natural Resources.
The 2020 conference will explore the existing relations created within and to the outside of Latin America in the context of innovation, agriculture, foreign affairs, trade, and climate-induced human migration. We will feature speakers from the public and private sector, academia, non-governmental organizations, and local communities to explore and guide conversations around these topics. The goal of this conference is to weave together the economic, environmental, and social opportunities and challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean, and to put a spotlight on important case studies and learnings that have global salience.
Born out of student initiative, the event will be co-hosted by F&ES and the Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS) at The MacMillan Center.
Through speakers and discussions, we will reflect on the climate-resilient activities made by sustainable cities and human settlements. We will learn about innovations taking place to solve the most pressing environmental challenges. We will discuss the interplay between local agriculture challenges and global markets. And we will lern about the perspectives of three respected keynote speakers and what to expect in Latin America in the comming years.

Keynote Speakers: Betilde Muñoz-Pogossian, Amanda Maxwell, Julia Carabias Lillo
