Filip Milačić, a researcher on how nationalism affects democratization in Southeastern Europe, will give an E&RS Lunch Seminar about Russian support for ethno-nationalists in the Balkans.

Filip Milačić studied political sciences and the history of Eastern Europe at the University of Heidelberg and obtained his PhD at the Humboldt University. Currently, he is a senior researcher at the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), research affiliate at Democracy Institute, Central European University (CEU), and research affiliate at the MacMillan Center, Yale University. Previously, Milačić worked for the Organization for the Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and at the University of Montenegro. He was also a visiting fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and at the Center for Advanced Studies of the University of Rijeka. He is author of two books: Nationalstaatsbildung, Krieg und Konsolidierung der Demokratie: Kroatien, Serbien, und Montenegro (Springer, 2017) and Stateness and Democratic Consolidation: Lessons from Former Yugoslavia (Springer, 2022). His work was published in many academic journals such as Ethnopolitics, Nations and Nationalism, Journal of Democracy, Nationalities Papers, and Democratization.
