A conference questioning the role of historicism in the comparative study of premodern literatures, exploring alternatives to cross-cultural connections, and theorizing multifocal scholarly practice that is not subordinated to totalities such as “world literature,” “the global Middle Ages,” or the arising of “modernity.”
