Sebastian Duque

Sebastian is a junior in Branford College born in
Pereira, Colombia and raised in Miami, Florida. He is majoring in
Environmental Studies and Political Science. His studies focus on
environmental law, politics, and, above all, justice. As a
first-generation immigrant, Sebastian shares a close tie to his
heritage that has motivated him to concentrate his research on
the environmental issues that Latin America, and the broader
Global South, face. Last summer, he interned with Dejusticia, a
legal and research non-profit based out of Bogota, and carried
out research on climate litigation that utilizes human
rights-based arguments to promote positive environmental outcomes
in the Global South. He is also passionate about community
organizing and collective action efforts and currently serves as
the co-President of Yale's Student Environmental Coalition.
Sebastian hopes his work and research will help empower
marginalized communities within Latin America and diaspora
communities in the Global North to learn more about the
environment, fight for their respective rights, and participate
in the decision-making process during this crucial turning point
for the global environment and climate.
