Visiting Fellow

I’m an historian specializing in early America and the British Atlantic world with particular interests in slavery, empire, and political economy. I received my PhD in History from Harvard University (2016) and am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse, France (2016-19). My current book project, Sustaining Slavery: Plantation Provisioning and the Politics of Health in the British Caribbean, c.1784-1838, examines how the bodily needs of slaves—in particular the provision of food, clothing, shelter, and medical care—shaped British imperial governance and the politics of abolition from the American Revolution to Emancipation.
