Mỹ Kiệt (Mia Kiet)
Mỹ Hoàn Kiệt (Mia), Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant 2024-2025, was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh city, a bustling city in the South of Vietnam. She holds a B.A degree in International Relations, and a Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). As an early career ESL Teacher and an active agent in Cultural Exchange for the past 4 years, Ms. Mỹ has always been searching for an opportunity to further her teaching experience, facilitate global cooperation, develop cultural competence, and thus transform Vietnamese education. To her, becoming a Vietnamese FLTA at Yale is such an opportunity. She believes that the discoveries she might make and the challenges she might encounter in Yale classrooms will later better Vietnamese classrooms and thus create a long-lasting impact on its society and Vietnam-U.S. relations. With the help of Yale and Fulbright network, she will be able to upscale her mini project which aims to provide free English lessons and career orientation for underprivileged yet highly motivated students. The people she meets, the students she teaches, and the cultural events she attends will play an important role in stimulating her creativity, broadening her worldview, developing her empathy, and shaping her mission in life. She thinks that when a teacher’s horizon is broadened, their students’ is broadened, and the whole community benefits. Her greatest contributions to Yale would be her eagerness to develop Vietnamese courses, creativity in event organization and performance skills.
