Gender and Policy Forum that unites scholars and policymakers working on gender issues in Latin America seeks call for nominations

The Latin American Interdisciplinary Gender Network (LAIGN) is delighted to announce the formation of a new working group dedicated to bringing together policymakers and academics who work on gender-related issues and topics: “Gender and Policy Forum.”

The Gender and Policy Forum is an initiative between Yale’s Council on Latin American & Iberian Studies at the MacMillan Center and LAIGN. It will be led by an executive committee of scholars with deep experience at the nexus of gender and policy: Professor of Anthropology Claudia Valeggia and Associate Professor of Comparative Literature Moira Fradinger from Yale University and Gisela Zaremberg from the Gender and Policy Program at FLACSO Mexico.

The goal of the Forum is ambitious: to help bridge the divide between public policy and academic scholarship. To accomplish this, the Forum will draw on the expertise and connections of LAIGN’s members as well as high-level policymakers from government, international organizations, and civil society.

LAIGN welcomes nominations of high-level policy makers in any policy area from any Latin American country who have an interest in or could benefit from applicable research on gender. Policy makers should be of sufficiently high level as to be directly involved in decision making at the national level, may be from any Latin American country, and must be able to work comfortably in either Spanish or English. Anyone may nominate a policy maker, and you may nominate yourself. You can find a full description of the call for nominations here. Submit all nominations to laign@yale.edu by October 15, 2021. This Gender and Policy Forum will launch in early 2022. For more information or any questions, please contact asia.neupane@yale.edu.
