Bingxi Cai

Bingxi Cai is a graduate student pursuing an M.A. in European and Russian Studies at Yale University. Originally from Beijing, China, she holds an A.B. from Brown University in Biology and Slavic Studies. Her research interests center on Russian and Eastern European literature, intellectual history, and visual culture, with particular attention to modernist literature and the ways writers and artists use myth, memory, and imagination to unsettle the boundaries of ordinary reality. At Brown, she was active in theatre and directed three productions, blending theatrical and cinematic languages by incorporating film and bodily performance to open multiple visual and narrative spaces within a single work.

At Yale, she's hoping to dig deeper into what culture actually is, through the roles people play in it and some serious, unhurried reading, all while keeping one foot firmly on the stage.
