Yelsy Hernández Zamora
Yelsy Hernández Zamora is a PhD candidate in the combined program in Renaissance Studies and Spanish and Portuguese. In her dissertation, she focuses on the relationship between death and power in the early modern Iberian empire. Her current research interests include artistic and literary connections between Spain, colonial Latin America, and Italy in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, power and self-fashioning in the early modern period, festival culture, transatlantic studies, media studies, and the history of the book. Before coming to Yale, she received her B.A. summa cum laude in History of Art at the University of Havana, where she taught for several years. She also worked as a film critic and magazine editor, as well as in the protection of intangible cultural heritage.
