Irene Kim
Irene is a junior majoring in Global Affairs with a prospective double major in Economics. During her freshman summer, she studied climate governance and the role of technology in enhancing public transportation and reducing emissions across various European cities. Her recent internship at the White House’s National Economic Council, combined with her exposure to the mass shutdowns at CrowdStrike this summer, has deepened her interest in how different regions approach AI regulation. Irene is particularly focused on building a comparative lens to understand the global credibility, ethical considerations, and security implications of AI, especially in light of the EU's implementation of the AI Act on August 1, 2024—the first comprehensive legal framework on AI. Outside of her academic pursuits, Irene enjoys visiting European museums and is captivated by the way European historical events have shaped contemporary art and culture, both within Europe and globally. She is especially intrigued by the French artistic and cultural influences that permeate U.S. government institutions.
