My interest in European, Russian, & Eurasian Studies stems from a wish to apply my knowledge of chemical engineering to the larger applications and effects on the energy sector and energy politics. I am interested in the EU's climate and energy policies, especially in what is being done for the green energy transition, from investments to legislation. I am also interested in how energy affects international (security) relations. It is self-explanatory that energy as a form of "currency" has the power to shape relations between countries and larger regions, e.g. EU and Russia, which raises the question of what part energy plays in the EU's IR and security policy. What steps does the EU need to take to become more energy-independent? How do renewable energy sources play into that? I am eager to use my engineering knowledge as an insight into what kind of investments could be made to advance the EU's energy politics and generally learn more about the effects of the energy sector on politics in my other interest areas.
