The History Teacher of Lahore illustrates the cultural and political turmoil experienced in Pakistan in the 1980s through the story of a young history teacher and poet. The novel artfully explores the politicization of history, highlighting tensions between a besieged democracy and thriving cultural traditions of Urdu poetry.

Tahira Naqvi is Clinical Associate Professor at the Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at NYU. Her work spans Urdu language and culture, South Asian literature, translation, and language pedagogy.
