I was born around the beautiful, green Andes mountains of Valencia, Venezuela. Frequently, I paint them as the happy memories I’ve had of my home country start to come back. Even though I was only four when I immigrated to the United States, and I’m 2,797 miles away, being a Venezuelan is an essential part of me. I am studying Neuroscience and Ethnicity, Race, Migration (ER&M) while also pursuing a Chinese Language certificate. Right now, I am interested in researching the Venezuelan diaspora and how Venezuelan migrants assimilate into their new countries while also resisting the xenophobia and nativist sentiment they face. I want to learn more about how the Venezuelan government is handling the COVID-19 pandemic and diving into how Venezuelan-Americans participate in United States electoral politics. I aspire to be an international research scientist and work in Latin America after I graduate college. Some of my interests include painting, karaoke, binge-watching reality tv shows, and coding.
